How it works
HAFEX units contain a solid compound of alkali metal salts pressed into tablets inside a metal housing. When the detection system (or a manual command) activates the unit, a redox reaction starts in the compound, producing an aerosol of potassium carbonates and bicarbonates (around 2 microns on average), water vapour, CO₂ and nitrogen. The aerosol stays suspended for a long time and fills the protected volume. Units do not require pressurised vessels or full room sealing.
